What will happen if John Edwards becomes President?

If John Edwards becomes President of the US. and his wife should die (not to be morbid) AFTER he gets the Presidential nomination OR after he becomes President, who becomes First Lady? I admire his courage despite her cancer diagnosis to stay in the race for the presidency, but do you feel he may be using it to "pull at the heartstrings" of the American public to hopefully insure a presidential nod? SERIOUS REPLIES ONLY PLEASE.
